Both myself and Actor Danny Glover know that a voice that is not spoken is a voice never heard. We needed to present to Congress our views on our current groups ideas. Myself on “Veterans and Service Members” and Danny Glover’s on “Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act,” We caught up during lunch break for a quick picture. Honored to stand next to this lethal weapon.
As the Director of Government Affairs for the Annapolis Chapter of VAREP Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals, my Job is to present to 8 Congressman and 2 Senators From the State of Maryland
actor Danny Glover called for reparations for slavery.
Coates and Glover were discussing a bill, H.R. 40, the “Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act,” which would not allocate money for reparations but would set up a committee to find ways to do so.
Our Position what a 4 point Policy Change to present to the staffers for Maryland’s District.
- Create the Education for Active Duty stations to present the HELP Class provided by VAREP instructors to teach Entry Active-Duty on Credit, Financial literacy and the VA Home Loan Buying process. To also along with the current class of TAPS To teach exiting Active-Duty on our 8 hour course on VA Home Loan and who qualifies for it, teach that it is your right forever to use. How to use it and how it can benefit the now veteran on their home buying process and be competitive in today’s Real Estate Marketing in Maryland by Skip Young.
- Open comments are being accepted on Huds “Informed Consumer Choice Disclosure Notice”. This would allow every lender to ask if the client they are with has served in the military. So many Veterans such as myself did not use my VA loan even though I am qualified as a veteran. By making it an option on a loan application will trigger every lender to offer the VA Home Loan Option.
- To expand the Data Collection from the CFPB. We want a policy that requires the CFPB to collect the data about the VA Home Loans and report that data to the VA for dissemination in understanding how to create less defaults, less homelessness and how many veterans are not using their benefit,
- My biggest talking point. To create a Federal Protected Class for Veterans against being discriminated against when choosing a home loan. Refinancing and continue to refinance their homes. By not being in a protected class, Veterans and Service Members can be preyed upon. This law is now in 13 states and we hope to have it push it through Maryland DC and Senator Kane is pushing now for Northern Virginia.
It was a great policy and you get to meet and hang with like minded Veterans and Policy makers in the business.
